Maintain your property for summer

As summer approaches, property owners are being encouraged to maintain yards, vacant blocks and nature strips to ensure they do not become overgrown.

Narrandera Shire Council’s Manager Development & Environment, Helen Ryan said, “Owners are encouraged to keep their properties in a neat and tidy manner. Overgrowth and accumulated rubbish should be cleared to reduce fire hazards, as well as to deter both snakes and vermin.”

Regular patrols of urban and peri-urban areas by Council’s Development & Environment team identifies properties where action is needed and also monitors resident complaints about overgrown blocks. Mrs Ryan asks residents to be patient as Council liaises with property owners to tidy and clear overgrown land. “Council follows up inspections and complaints by speaking with owners and/or providing written advice.”

With the additional green waste and lawn clippings being generated at the moment, residents are reminded that clippings are not to be placed around the base of street trees or on nature strips. Mrs Ryan advised “Green waste may be disposed of at either the Narrandera or Barellan Waste Depots at no charge.” Shredded organic material is used for cover of compacted waste and for environmental management on-site.
