Following the April Council Meeting, Narrandera Shire Council will call on the State and Federal Government to deliver financial support and stimulus packages for local government. To date there has been no financial assistance to support NSW councils to continue to operate effectively and provide essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The proposed assistance would see Financial Assistance Grants payments increased by 1% to help councils maintain essential functions and services. Acknowledging the increased costs and mounting revenue losses arising from COVID-19 and the drought, as well as giving councils the capacity to provide hardship assistance to businesses and residents.

Mayor Kschenka has commended the Australian and NSW Governments efforts to date, “The stewardship of our State and Federal Governments during this crisis and commitments to working in partnership to protect our community health and sustain local economies through this crisis has giving people confidence in adapting to these changes, knowing that support is available.”
